BE MY BABY!

Author(s):
Michele  Forsten

CLAIR, a serious-minded professor, and SUSIE, a lovable and volatile advertising continuity director, are urban professionals in their thirties. Lovers for five years, they are affectionate and committed, but conflicts loom large. Now Clair wants to have a baby, but Susie is against it. She wants Clair all to herself. Susie's older sister, RENEE, a hyper, technologically obsessed career woman, has just moved nearby. She's looking for marriage and motherhood. The three women encounter unexpected alliances among themselves, as well as long-standing tensions, as they come to terms with love, commitment and career issues. Clair's colleague and best friend ADAM appears at the end to stir things up further. And Susie's DEAD MOTHER and GRANDMOTHER appear to her in dreams, carrying their nagging into the afterlife but, at the same time, giving Susie a chance to come to terms with her own homophobia. BE MY BABY! deals with the serious concerns facing these women at the millennium. Security, money, the meaning of "family," AIDs, coping with new technology, taking chances and making choices are among the issues with which the characters grapple. Even in the most trying situations, they can laugh at themselves and this balance between humor and pathos propels the plot forward.
